NORCAP seeks an energetic and driven communications adviser
We are looking for the right person who can work with staff across the department and organisation toraise awareness of NORCAP’s work and advocate to improve the situation for people affected by war, conflict and natural disasters.
NORCAP was established nearly 30 years ago to provide partners with urgently needed extra personnel to deliver aid and help those in need. Today, the world faces fundamental and complex challenges. The number of crises has increased, often combining social and political conflict with natural disasters exacerbated by climatic changes. Vulnerable people need more than food and shelter. They have a right to be heard and to take part in shaping responses and their own future.
**NORCAP works with and through our partners to address these challenges via three core activities:
- We develop partnerships and projects with regional and global organisations and national stakeholders. We believe that working together in a coordinated and sustainable manner is the best way to reduce needs, risks and vulnerability over time.
- We seek and promote more effective ways of working at the global level and in the field. Our aim is not only to reduce needs, but also to create choice and opportunity for vulnerable people.
- We deploy skilled experts to develop partner capacity. They are well placed to identify and address challenges, improve collaboration and encourage new and innovative approaches.

- Develop NORCAP communication material, including external and internal talking points, presentations, reports and brochures related to NORCAP activities and achievements.
- Develop advocacy strategies for selected thematic areas and support the department with its implementation.
- Monitor project developments and ongoing public debates and analyse the need for specific communication initiatives to safeguard NORCAP’s position and reputation.
- Manage and develop NORCAP social media accounts including planning, producing content and measuring impact.
- Work closely with all NORCAP staff, NORCAP experts and NORCAP partner/donors to collect, process and share information and statistics on thematic priorities as well as emerging fields and geographic regions.
- Develop networks and relationships with communication counterparts in other organisations and the UN, with a view of doing joint advocacy and communication work to amplify our messages.
- Contribute to plan and coordinate day-to-day work for sections’ interns.
- Support Head of Section and NORCAP Executive Director with coordinating and facilitating weekly NMT meetings to ensure efficient internal communication between the Director, the Management Team, the NORCAP department and the rest of NRC.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant adviser experience in humanitarian, development or peace building field in order to ensure a good understanding of the communication needs and challenges in such contexts
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education in journalism, media relations, PR
- Professional knowledge of humanitarian principles, international affairs and general knowledge of the development and peace building sectors.
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
- Fluency in written and verbal English and Norwegian Knowledge of standard ICT tools.
