Community Partners International (CPI) is a U.S. nonprofit organization working in partnership with conflict-affected, hard-to-reach and underserved communities in Southeast Asia to expand access to quality health services and generate the resources, local capacity and coordination necessary to meet their own health, learning, and development needs. CPI’s Asian headquarters are located in Yangon, Myanmar, and the organization maintains field offices throughout Myanmar.
CPI is seeking a qualified candidate to lead the development of communications across various platforms for the USAID HIV/AIDS Flagship (UHF) Project. The Communications Manager will work closely with CPI’s Communications Director to ensure that all communications products meet CPI’s standards. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to the communications strategy of a flagship HIV/AIDS project in Myanmar.
The UHF Project is scaling up HIV testing and treatment services for key populations, with special emphasis on increasing access to harm reduction services. The UHF Project is working with the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS), international stakeholders and in-country partners to develop and implement innovative and cost-efficient systems that will increase linkage and access to HIV care.
• Lead the development and implementation of UHF Project communications strategy.
• Oversee the development of digital/social media campaigns including sensitive content and topics, sometimes in coordination with local advertising agencies.
• Work closely with CPI’s UHF Project team to provide accurate health-related information for digital/social media campaigns.
• Edit and provide detailed feedback on all content produced by external agencies.
• Work with UHF Project partners to identify and write compelling client-focused stories for the UHF blog on CPI’s website.
• Manage and regularly update the UHF Project Facebook page. Identify possible series or campaigns to increase audience engagement and create greater visibility.
• Compile, prepare and submit donor reports highlighting project progress and impact throughout the year.
• Coordinate with partners to send weekly field updates to donors. Draft, edit and proofread weekly updates for partners as needed.
• Maintain and regularly update a “media bank” of project activity photos, videos and texts.
• Develop and disseminate e-newsletters to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with USAID branding and marking guidelines for all communications products including donor reports and IEC materials.
• Provide support to CPI’s wider communications and marketing needs as required.
• Provide management support and oversight to a Communications Officer.
Education and Experience
• Demonstrated experience leading digital and social media campaigns on highly sensitive topics preferred.
• Bachelor’s or other advanced degrees in communications or public health-related fields preferred.
• 3-4 years’ experience working in a communications-related role.
• Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with experience communicating difficult and sensitive topics in a creative and easily accessible manner.
• Advanced or native-level English language skills; knowledge of Burmese language is desired.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital and social media, with 1-2 years’ experience managing social media channels.
• Basic knowledge of photo editing and desktop publishing software including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, or demonstrated experience leading a team of freelance consultants.
• Positive self-starter with a high degree of patience.
• Knowledge and interest in harm reduction. Experience writing about harm reduction services and programs is desired.
• Willingness to take extra steps outside of the job scope in order to produce and ensure timely delivery of required communications materials.
• Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage several tasks under extremely tight deadlines. Willingness to work during off hours as needed.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of sensitivity, confidentiality and respect for beneficiaries of partners’ services. Must possess a non-judgmental attitude.
• Willingness to experiment with new approaches or technologies.
• Interest in photography, film, design or visual media is desired.
