DIPLOMA IN SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Historically women’s health research and policy have been defined by reproductive health issues. It is important to focus on women’s sexual and reproductive health for many reasons that include; sexual conditions such as breast cancer and HIV which are some of the leading causes of mortality against women. Many sexual conditions such as chronic pain and cervical cancer are unique to women and receive limited attention, other sexual and reproductive health conditions such as pregnancy and menopause are the most prevalent health conditions affecting women, and the imbalance of power inherent in many sexual relationships has an impact on the sexual health of women.

As an institution, we came up with this module to promote sexual and reproductive rights and agency as well as respect for the dignity, equality, and rights of all persons as far as public health issues are concerned. The course acknowledges gender gaps that are a result of cultural stereotypes and addresses reproductive health as a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social wellbeing. It explores at length the challenges that social inequalities have on sexuality and health.

Students can specialize as researchers or practitioners, and emerge prepared to work in agencies and organizations involved in programmatic or advocacy work, policy or evaluation research, or indirect service delivery.
