The Global HR Director (GHRD) will work to improve the quality of HR practices in the field through monitoring and promoting best practice management through policy development and implementation, HR compliance, staff care and staff engagement. You will be a strategic internal consultant and facilitator to our three Regional HRMs and employees in resolving employment and/or performance problems. You will also provide HR support to RI Offices in the UK and Europe.
The Global HR Director (GHRD) reports to the VP of Human Resources and plays a critical role in executing HR initiatives and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement. This role is both strategic and hands-on and provides full cycle HR support.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
The Global HR Director (GHRD will work toward achieving the following:
HR standards and global assurance
- Staff survey – Develop a plan to design, roll out, and analyze surveys on various HR issues such as Engagement and Staff then communicate results and follows up on necessary actions across the organization
- Develop an electronic file management system and standardize practice for all HR teams at Country, Region and GSO level to manage employee files and other personnel matters. Ensure access by relevant stakeholders is limited and compliant for the protection of personal data.
- Lead the review of GSO and Expat manuals. Also lead the development and review of HR Policies and other SOPs related to the Employee Relations function.
- Conduct audits at field offices and review audits conducted by Regional Human Resources Managers (RHRMs) then work with them on corrective action plans.
- Review Field Office compliance against practices at the field offices then work with RHRMs and field Human Resources Managers toward compliance. Produce regular reports related to compliance status with respect to local labor laws, RI policies, and donor regulations.
- Lead HR investigations and review claims of violations to HR practices. Engages field offices in the process and coordinate closely with the Global Assurance Unit on cases reported to through the Incident Reporting Mechanisms
- Design and roll out programs and tools to support RI managers in managing performance of RI staff effectively
- Promote consistency of management practices across the organization .
- Properly and consistently manage Personnel Actions at GSO and for Expats
- Manage and consistently improve the implementation of RI’s Performance Management System across the organization.
- Provide guidance to management in resolving performance challenges .
- Promote RI’s approach to developing and managing poor performance so that expectations are communicated to employees before an adverse decision is taken.
- Ensure that RI’s organizational culture is dominant across RI offices and work with stakeholders to address any signs of cultural divisions.
- Serves as an internal consultant and facilitator to RHRMs and employees in resolving employment and/or performance problems;
- Lead HR interventions in implementation of Safeguarding policies including periodic training, availability of policies and training in local languages, and acting as a member of the Safeguarding Steering committee.
- Lead Investigations related to violations of Safeguarding Policies .
- Keep oneself trained and educated on latest developments in safeguarding practices within INGO sector.
- Develop and roll out a grass-root Staff Care Program through engaged external and internal resources.
- Develops creative ways to constantly communicate staff care to different categories of employees including brochure, personal connection, fun activities, etc.
- Partners with Compensation and Benefits Function and other stakeholders to address staff care needs after critical incidents including provision of access to psychological support and other insurance services .
- Promote staff counselling to different groups of employees including pre-deployment and post repatriation counseling.
HR Support to UK and Europe
- Lead recruitment of staff in the UK and Europe
- Monitor and make changes to RI HR Policies and SOPs to fit within the cultural and professional context where RI operates in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.
- Provide orientation and support onboarding of new hires in the UK and Europe.
- Provide day-to-day HR support to the RI office in the UK and other offices in Europe and ensure the offices are organically connected with other head offices of RI.
Travel – as required and directed by Vice President of Human Resources
Essential experience & skills:
- Degree educated or equivalent (ideally in Human Resources)
- SHRM certification and evidence of continuous professional development a plus;
- Progressive experience in international HR management in the non-profit INGO sector;
- Knowledge of current HR legislation and issues; including Brexit
- Experience working with staff members located in a variety of international locations;
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members;
- Ability to manage complex projects, prioritize multiple tasks with close attention to detail and accuracy and meet deadlines.
- Proven communication skills, oral and written; fluency in English;
- Excellent computer skills in particular, excel skills in database management and record keeping;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating respect for, and understanding of, cultural differences
- Strong interpersonal skills including a demonstrable ability to deliver difficult messages with tact, sensitivity and diplomacy. With credibility to influence sustainable change with senior management
- Willing to undertake travel overseas under difficult conditions in some of the most underdeveloped, insecure and remote parts of the world
