    Background:

    Village Health Works is a joint American-Burundian NGO based in Kigutu, Bururi Province whose mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care in a dignified environment while treating the root causes of illness, poverty, violence, and neglect in collaboration with those we serve. VHW’s approach integrates clinical services with education, food security, economic development, environmental protection, music and the arts. VHW’s central program is a clinic that conducted nearly 38,000 patient consultations in 2017 and has 4 inpatient wards. A hospital that will add surgical capacity is currently under construction and we anticipate continuing to expand our senior clinical leadership team in the coming years.     Position Summary

    This full-time position reports to the Director of Development and is a vital member of the development team responsible for writing proposals to secure private and public funding from national, international, and government-related sources; managing those relationships, reporting on outcomes, and diligently researching new opportunities for funding. This position requires strong writing, analysis, program budgeting, with a commitment to working in collaboration with program staff in Burundi on grant compliance and outcome measurement.

    Responsibilities

    § Develop a comprehensive strategy for conducting prospect research and soliciting foundations and granting agencies for the benefit of Village Health Works.

    § Manage the identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of grant funders.

    § Draft and edit letters of intent, grant proposals, online submissions, acknowledgements, reports, and necessary supporting documents for complex proposals to current and prospective funders.

    § Work closely with the Burundi-based program staff to effectively communicate the mission and programs of the organization to funders.

    § Manage existing grants by: tracking grants; developing internal reporting systems; writing reports; maintaining excellent historical records; working with Finance and program staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.

    § Solicit, steward, monitor and manage grants and foundation revenue goals.

    § Develop and maintain a grant calendar for all funding requests and maintain up-to-date records and paper files (as needed) in Donor Perfect and Box.

    § Prepare written and statistical reports for various audiences.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree and three to five years’ work experience within a nonprofit setting, in the area of grants management, grant-writing, foundation relations, and fundraising.

    Demonstrated persuasive writing skills experience as well as superior editing skills, including ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.

    Superior written communications and editing skills; knowledge of the fund-raising process and the concepts of donor relations and communications.

    Proven track record with successful proposals to private foundations, corporate foundations, and government entities.

    Utilization of MS Office suite and other programs with high proficiency. Knowledge of Donor Perfect and understanding of French helpful.

    Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner.

    Must possess excellent organizational, analytical and detail-management skills. Must be an excellent team player and have a strong inclination for collaboration.

    Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines without sacrificing quality.

    Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented, and mission-driven environment.

    Demonstrated interest in the mission, vision and values of Village Health Works.

Eligibility Criteria Educational Institutions Medical Institutions Community-Based Organisations Local & International Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Faith-Based Organisations Local Authority Ineligible Individuals or profit organisations Organisations that have officially operated less than two years at the time of application Organisations that are not registered with the relevant government agency Organisations without a title deed or proof of official approval of ownership/ land use Assessment Criteria The Embassy will assess all the submitted applications based on; Credibility of the organisation Legal status of the organisation (Registration certificate needed) Financial status of the organisation (Recent bank statement) Project management capacity of the organisation Community participation and their contribution towards the proposed project Sustainability and ownership by the beneficial community Impact of the project to the beneficiaries Quality of the proposal submitted in terms of neatness, focus, and attachment of verified documents.
