LINC was founded based on the belief that the most effective way to increase international development effectiveness and sustainability is to engage committed, capable local partners. The organization is a US-based company working to connect local development organizations with opportunities for collaboration, funding, and continuous organizational learning. LINC’s clients are an array of capable national and regional development organizations that span a wide range of technical areas and geographies.
LINC assists leading local and international organizations on a range of initiatives to design effectively, increase institutional capacity, forge lasting partnerships, and measure impact. They have developed ground-breaking tools to map organizational networks, measure social capital, and leverage systems-based approaches to capacity development. Their four areas of work include:
1) Consulting Services
LINC provides consulting services to local and international NGOs on strategy, process improvement, partnerships, outreach and fundraising.
>> Organizational Development – they provide demand-driven organizational development consulting services to help their clients increase their long-term sustainability and scale program impact. Organizational development topics include strategy/strategic planning, operational assessment, change management, program framework, impact measurement, human resources, financial resources, compliance with donor requirements, communications and back office support.
>> Fundraising and Proposal Support – Leveraging their expertise in fundraising strategy and proposal response, they assist leading organizations to prepare successful proposals, and new actors to assess prospects and expand their reach. They design appropriate new business development organizational structures, develop new business toolkits, craft positioning strategies, conduct RFA/RFP analysis, and author winning proposals for their clients. Effective partnership is a key emphasis across these engagements.
>> Representation and Partnering – Local NGOs strained by distance from their funders and limited in their resources find cost-effective solutions working through LINC. We help local organizations to effectively market their services to donors, partner with international organizations, and win new projects.
2) Project Partnerships
LINC collaborates with international and local organizations on donor-funded project implementation. Leveraging their expertise in organizational development and forging effective partnerships, their firm offers the products and expertise needed to creatively design, effectively implement and rigorously measure capacity development initiatives.
>> Capacity Building Programming – They partner on organizational capacity building programs and projects that have significant capacity building components to provide targeted and cost-effective capacity development services for local organizations. They leverage their integrated, systems-based project design, partner assessment, and impact evaluation tool: LINC’s PICKS including the Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) module.
>> Compliance and Capacity Building Technical Assistance – They support local NGOs to take on a lead role on programs that allow them to reach beyond their past experience. On such programs, their local NGO partners are the prime-recipients of donor funding and manage overall program implementation and budget using their technical expertise. In parallel, they support them with technical assistance to improve the systems and processes that they feel must be adjusted as they grow, and they help them ensure compliance with donor requirements.
LINC conducts traditional classroom and virtual internet-platform trainings for NGO staff, community members, business leaders and policy-makers. They utilize participatory experiential learning techniques, integrating theoretical concepts and analysis with practical experience and know-how. They have conducted trainings on donor-funded activities for project stakeholders and beneficiaries, tailored customized trainings and learning events for consulting clients, and developed the first in a series of workshops for local NGOs to assist them with fundraising activities. Learn more about their training series, Local NGO Workshop: Positioning, Preparing and Partnering for USAID Awards.
Existing and prospective local NGO clients interested in prioritizing trainings needs benefit from LINC’s Pre-Investment Capacity and Knowledge Scorecard (PICKS). Organized as a survey that can be taken on a computer or smart phone, PICKS is highly accessible and builds-upon emerging systems-based thought and research in business process effectiveness, social capital and network analysis. The instrument scores each client organization on a number of indicators and attributes, providing an objective platform for the prioritization of training and other organizational improvement initiatives.
In addition to training for NGOs, LINC provides training to a wide range of community based organizations (CBOs) and to NGO staff on community-driven development. This includes design and delivery of training for CBO capacity building, community development facilitation skills, and strengthening social capital of communities to increase resilience.
4) Design & Evaluation
They provide cutting-edge design and evaluation services for organizational development programming. LINC’s PICKS, Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) is an integrated assessment, project design, partner selection, and impact evaluation tool. It is a powerful resource for donors, international and umbrella organizations designing NGO assistance strategies, classifying country context, mapping-out networks, recommending and measuring assistance strategies that address systems constraints to organizational development.
>> Social Capital – They are passionate about research and testing of social capital in organizational networks, a frequently overlooked factor in capacity development programming. Recognizing that NGOs are actors in larger systems, LINC analyzes and tracks three social capital criteria (bonding, bridging and linking) to measure the effectiveness of NGO networks and their constituent members.
>> Forging Better Partnerships – As local NGOs take-on increasing levels of responsibility and funding, models for partnership and doing business better are rapidly evolving. LINC assists local and international organizations in partner identification, analysis, forging reciprocal agreements, and evaluating the impact of their work together.
