Heartland Alliance International (HAI) seeks an experienced mental health practitioner to drive thought leadership for innovative mental health programming. This position will facilitate organizational learning on the design, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of HAI’s mental health programs. Primary responsibilities include: working closely with the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (DMEL) team to inform project design; training HAI and staff on best practices in global mental health programming; representing HAI externally; documenting HAI’s unique approach and successes; and ensuring quality program implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Provides technical assistance and capacity building including support for the design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of mental health interventions implemented by HAI and national and local partners.
- Serve as a focal point for cross-organizational learning in mental health, assisting with the development of research studies (and related IRB engagement) case studies of successes and lessons learned, and other publications to highlight HAI’s niche areas of expertise and value added.
- Supports the Director of Program Development to design, draft, and edit proposals in the mental health field.
- Remains informed on current state-of-the-art programs in international mental health interventions, through the review of literature and articles, and maintains links with other international bodies which specialize in this issue.
- Develops scopes of work, project deliverables and monitoring and evaluation indicators and targets together with the Program Development team for grant and service delivery partners as required.
- Develops guidance, tools, case studies, models, and other materials related to mental health programming to promote learning across country offices.
- As possible, represents HAI and its projects in professional and public settings, and makes presentations at professional meetings and conferences.
- Conducts bi-annual in-house trainings for Chicago and country staff on trauma-informed mental health programming.
- Helps to establish minimum standards or other guidelines to ensure program quality and ethical implementation.

Education and/or Experience:
· Master’s degree or higher in mental health, social work, clinical psychology or related field
· 10 years of experience in global mental health programming. Experience must include;
o At least two years of experience in a developing country setting, and/or in planning, development, and implementation of US-based mental health programming for refugees, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable immigrant populations;
o Documentation of models, case studies, and/or the development of other written tools and resources for practitioners;
- Training staff and implementing partners on the provision of mental health services to marginalized and/or vulnerable populations, including specific intervention methodologies and industry best practices.
- Developing output and outcome level performance measurement indicators and targets related to mental health,
· Experience with technical writing for funding proposals strongly preferred
· Forward and Strategic Thinking- Has an understanding of broad and interconnected systems within which HAI works, and able to articulate intersectionality of technical expertise where others may not see . Able to provide thoughtful contributions to the strategic process. Able to monitor and make recommendations on how to respond to changing conditions.

· Excellent oral and written English language communication skills
· Demonstrated competency in public speaking
· Fluency or advance professional skills in one or more Heartland’s four working languages preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems
- High proficiency in Excel, SPSS, or another statistical analysis software
