Organization: International Refugee Trust
IRT is looking to recruit two new Trustees for its Board. This is an opportunity to help in the governance of some fantastic work improving the lives of refugees, internally displaced people and returnees around the world. Currently we support a wide range of projects with local partner agencies in countries including South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Jordan.
We are looking for individuals who may be able to bring skills and experience either in HR or Finance to our Board, not necessarily gained in the charity sector. Commitment to four Board meetings a year, held in Chiswick, London, W4, plus additional committee meetings, is essential. An appreciation of good governance would be useful. The willingness to contribute time and professional skills to the running of an agile, dynamic and forward-thinking organization is essential. Applications are encouraged from those still working in executive roles.
The ideal candidates will be committed to the vision, aims and values of IRT. They will display the highest standards of integrity, with appropriate ethics and behaviours. Experience of high-level strategy development and its implementation should be combined with excellent leadership, communication and personal skills. Candidates should be willing and able to devote the necessary time to the role, including acting as an ambassador for IRT.
Although IRT’s projects are managed jointly by the London office and local overseas NGOs, ultimate responsibility for IRT and all major decisions regarding the selection of projects and the transfer of money lie with IRT’s Board of Trustees, who are directors of the company.
The responsibilities of all Trustees include:
- Realising the mission of IRT through policy and planning.
- Taking legal and financial responsibility to safeguard the assets of the organisation.
- Taking responsibility for the wellbeing of the staff and for appointing the CEO.
- Acting as advocates for IRT and assisting, as far as possible, in the fundraising process.
