AMMAN, The Royal Humanitarian Foundation of Bahrain is contributing US$ 3 million to UNRWA to construct a new health centre in Jalazone refugee camp in the West Bank. The health centre will serve some 15,000 Palestine Refugee patients.
The new centre will be wheelchair-accessible thanks to ramps and an elevator. The building will also include a centralized air-conditioning and heating system, large waiting areas, an X-Ray room, a laboratory including a bio-lab and storage.
The Secretary-General of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) of Bahrain, His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said, “UNRWA plays a vital role in providing basic services and interventions to Palestine Refugees in its fields of operations, including education, health and social protection. This contribution reaffirms RHF’s strong support for the Palestinian cause and for addressing the essential needs of Palestine Refugees at large and in the West Bank specifically.”
UNRWA Director of External Relations and Communications Tamara Alrifai said: “UNRWA is grateful for the contribution from the Royal Humanitarian Foundation, which will help secure sanitary, privacy-oriented, and disability-accessible environment for thousands of Palestine Refugee patients. As violence dangerously increases in the West Bank, UNRWA’s ability to provide essential services to Palestine Refugees must remain strong. The Agency depends on support from generous donors like RHF to carry out its mission.”
UNRWA continues to face financial challenges that threaten its ability to maintain lifesaving services for Palestine Refugees. The Agency has urged donors and partners to renew support for Palestine Refugees.

Background Information:
UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The United Nations General Assembly established UNRWA in 1949 with a mandate to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to registered Palestine refugees in the Agency’s area of operations pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.
UNRWA operates in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, The Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
Tens of thousands of Palestine refugees who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the 1948 conflict continue to be displaced and in need of support, nearly 75 years on.
UNRWA helps Palestine Refugees achieve their full potential in human development through quality services it provides in education, health care, relief and social services, protection, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.
