IDA Program Coordinator

IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States. The IRC opened an office in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees. The office resettles refugees and provides numerous program services to assist refugees from their arrival through citizenship.

Job Summary

The Economic Empowerment (EE) team was created to assist refugees in achieving self-sufficiency by operating economic development programs designed to meet the specific needs of refugees. EE programs are designed to build-upon IRC’s core resettlement services. Within the EE team is the Individual Development Accounts (IDA) Program, which helps low-income families improve their financial capability and build assets.

The IDA Program Coordinator coordinates a match-savings program to increase the ability of families to save money, promote participation in financial institutions, and increase asset acquisition through the establishment of savings that can be matched with grant funding. The IDA Program Coordinator is also responsible for file creation and management, facilitating trainings, and meeting with clients and partners.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a focal point for the community, refugee resettlement agencies, and service providers for the dissemination of information about the program
  • Establish and maintain linkages with community-based organizations for the purposes of referrals and collaborations.
  • Coordinate application, intake, eligibility of participants, and create client files
  • Provide individual coaching to assist participants with goal setting
  • Closely monitor the status of each program participant’s progress and address problems quickly to ensure success for the participant
  • Ensure participants have access to required workshops or training, whether referred, facilitated, or coordinated, in accordance with guidelines and assigned curriculum
  • Maintain client files for tracking purposes
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting information
  • Coordinate the establishment of savings accounts with participants and financial institution partners as needed
  • Coordinate and manage the asset-purchase process and manage the match withdrawal disbursements at the time of the asset purchases
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, social work or related field preferred
  • At least two years of related professional social work experience
  • Previous program coordination experience
  • Excellent cross-cultural understanding and communication skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work independently and with high attention to detail
  • Competency with Microsoft Office, data tracking, and file management
  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance, access to a reliable personal vehicle

Working Environment:

  • Standard office work environment with travel in and around the service delivery area
