The Position

Mercy Corps’ Development team in Europe drives and supports strategies for restricted, unrestricted and flexible funds and brand profile raising in the UK and mainland Europe. The team is a crucial and integrated component of the organisation’s global resource development efforts. The team concentrates on four primary revenue streams – Corporate Partnerships, Foundation Partnerships, High Impact Philanthropy and Direct Marketing.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Coordinator will provide best in class administrative support to ensure effective implementation of the department’s strategic and operational plans, working closely with the Director of Development and Management team to optimise workstreams, enhance communications, track team performance and delivery. Responsibilities include managing the cross-team work plan, supporting the tracking of team KPIs, supporting the development of briefs and presentations for executive meetings, scheduling meetings and workshops, managing department onboarding, concise note taking, providing editing, formatting and proof-reading of fundraising materials/content, updating the Raisers Edge system (CRM), coordinating travel, expense reports, and supporting research and due diligence briefs for the team as required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development & update of the cross-team work plan.
  • Coordinate the tracking of cross-team KPI’s.
  • Maintain a team-wide knowledge management system to store and organise relevant team resources and tools.
  • Support the Director of Development with scheduling team meetings and workshops.
  • Maintain the schedule, agenda and meeting notes for weekly team meetings, support the scheduling of one-to-ones with the Director of Development and other regular meetings, following up on action points across the team.
  • Support onboarding of new team members (in partnership with relevant hiring manager), including developing onboarding schedule, securing IT supplies and preparing relevant onboarding materials.
  • Support Director of Development in keeping records in Raiser’s Edge current and accurate
  • Coordinate cross-team planning during emergency response moments.
  • Provide editing, proof-reading and formatting of material and content as required.
  • Manage team celebrations, team-building events and special occasions.
  • Engage cross-functionally across Mercy Corps to share information and resources to bolster our communications efforts.
  • Support the maintenance/update of internal communication team channels, such as Workplace, the Hub and Team Organograms etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports Directly To: Director of Development

Works Directly With: Development Team in Europe, Media and Comms team in Europe, Development and MarComms colleagues in the U.S. (global).

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills

  • Minimum of three years’ experience delivering high quality administrative support or project management
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, able to work easily in both remote and in-person work environments.
  • Excellent computer and tech skills (MS 365, Canva etc.)
  • Proven ability to work diligently, managing competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Skilled in anticipating and logically solving problems that may arise using own initiative.
  • Highly numerate and confident in interpreting results.

Success Factors

The Development Coordinator will be a self-starter, detail oriented, comfortable with multi-tasking and have superior project management and organisational skills. They must have the ability to think critically, problem-solve and make good decisions that contribute to the team’s success, with a can-do flexible approach. They must have a proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations, to understand the larger picture while remaining focused on the details and maintain a calm approach under stressful situations. Awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural international development work is required.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

This position can be based in Edinburgh, London or UK remotely and may require some minimal travel. Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all Mercy Corps locations.
