About Horan Foundation

HORAN FOUNDATION is a Syrian-focused non-profit organization working in Syria and countries of asylum with no discrimination. Through emergency interventions, meeting their basic needs, and implementing highly competent community development programs.
HORAN FOUNDATION was established with the escalation of the Syrian crisis at the beginning of 2012 in Jordan and registered in Turkey in 2014 and Switzerland in 2016, where it started as a group of friends to provide emergency humanitarian assistance in Daraa and its countryside. Since then, HORAN FOUNDATION has developed to become one of the largest organizations supporting the Syrian people, through the implementation of 350 projects that helped the lives of more than 10 million beneficiaries throughout the Syrian territory and neighboring countries asylum, and also contributed to the establishment of the Platform of Syrian Associations (Minber Suriye), one of the most important coordination platforms for humanitarian workers in the Syrian affairs. It has a membership of the NGO Forum and membership in Syrian Networks and membership in the Forum for the Voice of the Displaced Syrians.

Overall Purpose:

As Media Coordinator for the Horan Foundation focused on humanitarian efforts, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating various media-related activities to communicate the Foundation’s mission, projects, and impact to a wide range of stakeholders. This role plays an important role in raising awareness, promoting fundraising initiatives, and supporting advocacy efforts through various media channels.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Media strategy development:

Collaborate with the organization’s leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive media strategy aligned with the NGO’s humanitarian goals.

Identifying target audiences and developing appropriate media plans to reach them effectively.

Stay up to date with the latest media trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance your outreach efforts.

  • Content creation and management:

Develop compelling and engaging multimedia content, including written articles, press releases, social media posts, blog posts, videos and photographs, to showcase the organization’s initiatives and impact.

Coordinating and supervising the production of media content, ensuring quality, accuracy and consistency.

Manage the organisation’s website, social media platforms and other digital channels to ensure content is fresh, engaging and reflective of the organisation’s brand.

  • Media relations and networks:

Build and maintain relationships with the media, journalists, influencers and other relevant stakeholders to increase media coverage and exposure for the organisation.

Develop and distribute media kits, press releases and other media communication materials.

Respond to media inquiries promptly and professionally, and arrange interviews and press conferences as needed.

  • Advocacy and public awareness:

Collaborate with advocacy teams to support campaigns, initiatives and events through media coverage and publicity.

Identify opportunities to raise awareness of humanitarian issues and enhance the organization’s work through media partnerships, events and cooperation.

Monitor media coverage and public sentiment regarding humanitarian issues and provide regular reports to the organization’s leadership.

  • Monitor and evaluate:

Track and analyse media coverage and engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of media campaigns.

Provide regular reports on media activities, reach, and influence to inform decision-making processes.

Stay current on media regulations, ethical guidelines, and legal considerations to ensure compliance in all media-related activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5 years of Proven experience in media relations, content creation, and digital media management, preferably in the non-profit or humanitarian sector.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt content for different media platforms.
  • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms, content management systems and media monitoring tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with media professionals and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian issues and understanding of the NGO sector.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in challenging and fast-paced environments.
