Communications Lead

Lifting Hands International is looking for a Communication lead to start in August/September 2023 in Greece with a minimum six-month commitment.

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Role Profile

The Communication lead will work closely with the Director of Outreach and Development, contributing to developing high quality content for LHI Greece’s social media accounts. This includes creating original text, photo and video content to best represent the activities run at our community center whilst ensuring LHI’s strict guidelines and ethics. As part of our strong community-led approach, this figure will also be responsible for developing workshops and courses for our community members on topics such as photography, video-making, social media management, creative writing, communication, and/or journalism as part of our Professional Development program. Next to the specific communication tasks, the Communication lead will be a part of the facilitator team and will be required to facilitate the day to day running of our programs including, the Female Friendly Space, Arts and Recreation, Child Friendly Space and Education Program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Continued development of social media and content creation
  • Working with program managers to find exciting and engaging ways to highlight our activities
  • Leading workshops within the Professional Development program on communication based skills
  • Ensuring that LHI’s social media policy is enforced
  • Facilitating in the programs, being a part of the other programs
  • Reporting safeguarding concerns
  • Assisting with other duties when required

Essential Criteria

  • Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, easily adaptable to a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
  • Ability to create interesting and informative content (text, photos, videos)
  • A background in media or experience managing social media accounts
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer literacy and availability to teach computer classes and specific workshops
  • Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
  • Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
  • Minimum six-month commitment
  • Fluent English speaker

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
  • Understanding of the implementation of Psycho-Social-Support programs
  • Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
  • Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth
  • Previous experience in leading workshops on content creation
