Description of the area to which the position is limited

The position falls under the Operations Area of ​​the LWF – Colombia Program, which is led by the Operations Manager. The position reports directly to the WASH Professional and will maintain close coordination with the Finance and Administration Area, the project team, and the regional team.

Location

Based in the Quibdó office , however, the candidate must be available to travel to the departments where the FLM/SM COL VEN works, in the country or outside of it, and where the functions inherent to his/her position are required to carry out.

Purpose of the position

Contribute to improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene in vulnerable communities in Chocó through technical and community monitoring of WASH projects and the systematic writing of logbooks documenting progress, challenges, and lessons learned. Likewise, provide support for the implementation of WASH strategies focused on strengthening local capacities, promoting safe hygiene practices, and encouraging the active participation of Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and host communities, ensuring the sustainability of interventions.

Description of activities:

LEADERSHIP

  • Act as a facilitator in the communication and coordination processes between communities and the LWF technical team, promoting active participation and a sense of co-responsibility in WASH interventions.
  • Lead assigned activities in the field, with an emphasis on monitoring water, sanitation, and hygiene projects, community support, and systematic documentation through logbooks.
  • Represent the LWF program in the framework of project implementation when delegated, ensuring a respectful and consistent dialogue with the organization’s humanitarian principles and community-based approach.

MANAGEMENT

  • Conduct technical and community monitoring of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in communities in the department of Chocó, ensuring that they are developed in accordance with the quality, relevance, and sustainability criteria established by the LWF.
  • Prepare detailed logs on the progress of field activities, including technical, logistical, community, and security aspects, to provide timely feedback to the project team.
  • Support the implementation of WASH strategies in coordination with the technical team, prioritizing the active participation of Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and host communities.
  • Support community processes such as the formation or strengthening of water committees and the promotion of good hygiene practices, in coordination with local stakeholders.
  • Identify needs, risks, and opportunities in assigned communities, providing key input for planning, adjusting, and improving interventions.
  • Coordinate with the LWF team and other organizations present in the field to avoid duplication and promote complementary actions.
  • Support awareness-raising, training, and outreach activities related to safe access to and use of water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene, adapted to the cultural and linguistic contexts of communities.
  • Ensure compliance with the safety, security, and gender-sensitive protocols established by the organization during the execution of activities.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the effective implementation of the LWF security policy and ensure the implementation of the LWF Codes of Conduct and other institutional policies within the framework of the project
  • Strictly comply with LWF/SM-CO procedures, manuals, and policies.
  • Ensure proper cash management for travel advances for activities. Complete travel reports that comply with donor requirements and LWF administrative procedures.
  • Ensure proper compliance with the administrative and control procedures applicable to them, within the scope of their activities within the framework of the specific project and FLM policies.
  • Comply with LWF procedures, manuals, and policies, including the Codes of Conduct, Safety and Security Policy, Security Manual, Child Protection, and any other requirements established by the LWF.
  • The LWF has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse, and all staff have a duty to comply with and promote the LWF Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Policy in the performance of all duties and functions.

Professional Requirements

Level of Education

  • Technical or technological studies or undergraduate student in Sanitary, Environmental or Civil Engineering and/or related careers are required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum experience of one (1) year in humanitarian aid projects in water, basic sanitation and hygiene practices.
  • Experience in monitoring WASH projects, community intervention, or implementing hygiene strategies is desirable.
  • Experience with indigenous, displaced, confined, and host populations is desirable.
  • Work experience in the Choco Department is desirable.
  • Experience in managing projects focused on gender equality is desirable.

Languages ​​and office automation

  • It is essential that you read, speak, and write Spanish, whether as a native language or with proven advanced fluency.

Other required knowledge and skills

Knowledge:

  • Gain an understanding of the dynamics of the armed conflict in Chocó and its humanitarian impact.

  • Rehabilitation and/or adaptation of community water systems.
  • Ability to write logs, systematize activities, and prepare reports in a clear and structured manner.

  • Willingness to travel to hard-to-reach rural areas and remain in the field as required by the project.
