Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor, Governance

Department

Programs – Pact strives for a world where all people are heard, capable, and vibrant. The Programs Team helps realize this objective by bridging program management, technical support, and business development, enabling Pact to achieve its global strategy. We ensure program excellence through continuous learning, monitoring and evaluation and provide organizational and industry-wide thought leadership by leveraging a complementary set of cross-functional, multi-disciplinary skills, expertise, and experiences. Position Overview

The Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor will serve as technical and management lead for GESI focused Civil Society and Media Strengthening Together and Advancing in New Directions (CSM-STAND) Associate Awards (AAs). They will provide support to AAs to ensure quality programming and achievement of AA outcomes implemented by Pact. They will also provide GESI technical support to other projects within the governance portfolio and serve as resource to the governance team on GESI principles and safeguarding. Additionally, the GESI Advisor will provide leadership and/or significantly contribute to CSM-STAND and governance new business strategy. Where possible, they may serve as a resource to the larger institution on GESI-related policy and thought leadership initiatives.

The GESI Advisor will work closely with the CSM-STAND Chiefs of Parties and Deputy Director for Governance. This will include maintaining open communication related to the needs and performance of individual projects and consulting on the execution of business development activities focused on growing the governance portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Technical implementation and management

  • Serve as the lead for technical implementation and support to GESI-focused CSM-STAND associate awards (i.e. country, regional, and global buy in programs)
  • Ensure that lessons learned and accomplishments related to GESI are integrated into programming within Pact’s larger Governance portfolio.
  • Design evidence-based approaches and activities to improve GESI capacities and practices within local partners.
  • Provide technical support and leadership for the development and dissemination of strategies and tools to guide GESI-focused technical assistance and mentorship.
  • Strengthen the capacity of project and governance team staff on GESI principles and promote GESI mainstreaming and gender transformative programming.
  • Collaborate and engage with other teams providing support and oversight to country programs to ensure activities are implemented according to GESI best practices and frameworks.
  • Engage Pact’s Governance, Learning, Evaluation and Impact and Capacity Development & Innovation teams to assist in capturing technical achievements, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Encourages cross-project learning to deepen development solutions that are locally relevant, successful, and sustainable.

New Business Development

  • Work closely with the Senior Director and Deputy Director for Governance to contribute to the development and implementation of the Governance New Business strategy.
  • Work closely with CSM-STAND LWA COP, Regional Directors and Business Development, to lead on the development and execution of a business development strategy for CSM-STAND.
  • Work closely with all key operating units to ensure that business development opportunities are adequately resourced.
  • As appropriate, lead the pre-positioning, championing, and/or writing of technical proposals

Representation

  • Present and promote GESI project successes and lessons, including through the writing of blogs and articles.
  • Attend and present at conferences or working groups as required.
  • Develops a professional network with other organizations globally focused on GESI work.

Basic Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) required – in a relevant subject area, preferably in gender, sociology, social work, psychology, public health, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of technical experience in gender and social inclusion.
  • In-depth understanding of gender, age, and other significant socio-cultural factors, such as disability and cultural diversity.
  • Prior work experience in a similar position within international development or government agency, or private company.
  • Demonstrated capacity strengthening experience, including developing and conducting trainings, mentorship, and coaching of government, local, and community partners.
  • Strong understanding of Do No Harm principles, gender mainstreaming and gender equality and social inclusion principles and methodologies, including disability inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure gender and social inclusion integration in project design, implementation, and M&E.
  • Qualitative research experience, including tool development, data collection around sensitive topics, and data analysis preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and strong ability to manage and meet multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
