Haiti – Forced displacement (DG ECHO, IOM, Reliefweb) (ECHO Daily Flash of 12 June 2025)

  • According to IOM (DTM June 2025), there are 1,287,593 internally displaced persons (IDP) in Haiti, a 24% increase compared to January 2025. IDPs represent 11% of the Haitian population at present.
  • Displacement is triggered by growing armed violence which is spreading to the Centre department, in the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince and Artibonite department (Petite Rivière).
  • The number of sites has almost doubled, from 142 to 246, following the creation of new sites in the provinces. Sites in the capital are more populated, hosting on average 2,000 people compared to 126 in provinces, which severely affects the living conditions. 77% of IDPs however is hosted in provinces, placing significant pressure on already limited resources of host communities.
  • Urgent needs in IDPs’ sites and host locations are food, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), non food items (NFIs) and health assistance.
