HR Advisor

Main purpose of the role As a member of the secretariat team, the human resources adviser is responsible for providing strategic and operational support on all aspects of GNDR’s people management.

Specific responsibilities

1. HR Policy Advice and Compliance

● Assist line managers to understand and implement policies and procedures and interpret and advise on employment law;

● Advise and support managers on employee relations cases, including proactively managing cases including addressing performance, absence, wellbeing, grievances, disciplinary, including liaising with HR and legal service providers as needed;

● Responsible for ensuring compliance to GNDR’s HR policies, particularly code of conduct, and safeguarding, including acting as focal point for safeguarding;

● Oversee appraisal process in line with GNDR policy

2. Staff Recruitment and Onboarding

● Coordinate the recruitment and selection of staff including developing job descriptions and person specifications, job evaluation, advertising, and shortlisting;

● Oversee the issuing of job offers and employment contracts and ensuring background checks are completed before new staff start;

● Coordinate the induction of new staff ensuring they are briefed on their role;

3. Learning and Development

● Analyse staff and team development needs in conjunction with team leads and line managers, developing secretariat level and individual training plans;

● Organise training as required;

4. HR Administration

● Maintain detailed, accurate and secure employee records compliant with GDPR.

Produce, analyse and report people related metrics to senior leadership team, highlighting actions needed to address issues arising;

● In collaboration with finance business partner ensure the monthly payroll is processed to allow timely staff salary payment;

● Advise the senior leadership team on pay and remuneration and undertake research for annual cost of living adjustments;

● Monitor staff well-being and workload, advising senior leadership team and managers in addressing issues;

● Support head of operations in implementation of staff surveys, and addressing any issues arising

● Advise and support the executive director on staff communication to ensure staff are encouraged and clear on corporate direction and responsibilities;

● Support the head of operations to ensure travel insurance and life assurance is in place for staff.

Candidate requirements:

  • Candidates will be educated to degree level, preferably in a Human Resources or relevant subject, and be CIPD qualified.
  • Candidates will have generalist HR experience gained within a fast-paced HR team with experience of coordinating recruitment and HR administration
  • Candidates with experience working in an international, multicultural environment in the charity sector are preferred.
  • Candidates will have excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills, and knowledge of HRIS systems.
  • Candidates will also be able work with limited supervision, and able to think, plan, prioritise and organise in a clear and structured way, as well as being able to work in and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
