Mechanical Site Engineer

Overview of position

  • The Yemen office in the Amman hub is currently implementing three projects with identical scope with the same funding source in Yemen. This is the fourth phase of the project where our client will increase access to primary & secondary health services facilities (general hospitals, local health centers & therapeutic feeding centers) in Yemen, by restoring the physical infrastructure of health facilities (rehabilitation, maintenance works & minor repairs) in targeted areas. In addition, our client will be providing priority medical equipment & supplies to these targeted facilities along with training on the use of the medical equipment to the staff of the rehabilitated health facilities.
  • Our client will be responsible for the design & rehabilitation works of the health facilities that will increase the targeted facilities’ reliability & service capacity, ensuring highest standards in design & rehabilitation works & respect of ‘state of the art’ requirements for safety, sustainability, security & disability access. In addition, our client will be responsible to provide the targeted facilities with priority medical equipment & supplies, as well as strengthening capacities through conducting training & awareness raising activities.

Role objectives

The candidate to perform his/her work in full compliance with our clients standards, guidelines & procedures where the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following task but will not be limited to:

  • Supervise the implementation of mechanical works on site that are carried out by the contractor as per the contractual provisions & the design specifications to ensure quality of the works is monitored & controlled as per specification requirements.
  • Ensure quantity / quality control & time schedule consistency.
  • Checks contractor’s set out & works, including compliance with contract specifications & quantities related to mechanical works & ensures that contractors comply with their work plans to complete work within specified time frame.
  • Inspect all material delivered, at the time of receipt, to ensure compliance with approved materials & specifications.
  • Provides support & guidance to the contractor & assists in resolving site problems, as necessary, in full coordination with the Project Manager & the Mechanical Engineer.
  • Responsible for checking the quality of delivered mechanical materials according to the approved material submittal check the mechanical work activities of contractor(s), measure completed mechanical work.
  • Check, verify the interim payments submitted by the contractor(s) related to mechanical works & submit detailed reports to the Project Manager.
  • Assist in the preparation of quality control & quality assurance documentation related to mechanical engineering works.
  • Report & recommend remedial actions regarding potential delays & / or cost overruns related to mechanical works to the Project Manager & the Electrical Engineer.
  • Verify that works are consistent with the project technical specifications, drawings, BoQ & inform promptly to the Mechanical Engineer & the Project Manager.
  • Document all activities of work (taking photos, notes, etc.).
  • Protecting the confidentiality of work.
  • Any additional duties required as needed within the scope of the project.

Project reporting

  • This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 7 years in site supervision experience in mechanical works for hospitals & health care facilities.
  • Experience in the usage of computers & software packages (Autodesk AutoCAD, Google Suite).
  • Very good knowledge in written & oral English & Arabic languages is required.

  • This role has no team management responsibility.

  • This contract is subjected to daily payments depending on the number of working days per month as specified & agreed with the Project Manager / Engineer.
