Project Officer (SGBV – We Matter Too! Project)

Part 1 – Job description

Main purpose of the job

Support the SGBV/MCHPR Coordinator in implementing the Project on We matter, our lives (health) count too!; Enabling Adolescent girls, young women and the community, and other SGBV/MCHPR projects to ensure programmatic and financial integrity of the project including achievement of the project goals, objectives and outcomes. S/he will ensure that the project is implemented with best practices, getting lessons learned and inclusion of lessons learnt including meeting organisational Quality Standards and international standards, working closely with all staff to do this. The role will require travel to field sites approximately 80% of the time.

Position in organisation

  • Reports to the SGBV/MCHPR coordinator (Tearfund Nigeria) with a dotted line management to Tearfund’s Program Director
  • Grade : Croner level 5
  • Support the SGBV/MCHPR Coordinator in technical planning supervision and monitoring of field activities.
  • Maintain, monitor and measure the We matter too and other SGBV implementation and contribute to effective information management on community dialogues, diffusion activities and other project activities to ensure adherence to SOPs.
  • Participate in the monthly planning meetings to ensure effective implementation of the project.
  • Assist in project monitoring at the community level and participate in the Technical Advisory Group meeting.
  • Work with other departments/units in Tearfund including the Gender Based Violence/Psychosocial Support (GBV/PSS) unit in the Reconciled and Peace-filled Society (RPS) corporate priority area.

The post-holder will be expected to behave in accordance with Tearfund’s ‘Code of Conduct’ as referred to in the Personal Conduct Policy.

Scope of Job:

  • Provide regular internal and external reports on the We matter too project and other relevant information on program activities, policy matters and external relations.
  • Participate in the development of the monthly action plan on the We matter too project based on findings from the monthly reviews to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop budget responsibility(costed monthly Work Plan)
  • Some travel within Nigeria
  • Provide regular support to stakeholders in all communities of Wadata and Gboko South of Benue state.
  • Participate in relevant state level coordination meetings

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting on the day to day project’s progress
  • Overseeing project activities, mitigating challenges and reporting to management as needed.
  • Develop and share detailed monthly activity plans to track progress.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Overseeing the implementation of community dialogue sessions, diffusion and other activities
  • Writing and submitting monthly and quarterly reports
  • Organising quarterly TAG meetings and liaising with TAG members.
  • Maintaining a cordial relationship with all relevant stakeholders in Benue state. states
  • Supervising and building the capacity of community gender champions and faith leaders on the TM model
  • Ensure timely payments of gender champions and other volunteers.
  • Coordinate all joint field activities between Tearfund and Positive Action
  • Ensure regular visits and supervision of project activities in all communities of Wadata and Gboko South of Benue state.
  • Ensure all planned activities are delivered on time and with scope and budget
  • Support project coordinator in quality control, evaluation and closure
  • Manage risks, issues and changes.

CORPORATE POLICIES & PROCEDURES

  • Promote Compliance culture and practices in Nigeria among staff and partners (supports designing/updating of policies, raising awareness, training staff and partners, reporting, etc.)
  • Works within Tearfund’s DME requirements and policy.
  • Contribute towards the induction of project staff, ensuring their familiarity with Tearfund’s mandate, values, Quality Standards, policies, programme objectives, and their individual responsibilities in upholding these standards and policies.

Part 2 – Person specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • BSc/BA or equivalent qualification in Gender Studies, Public health, Peacebuilding, International Relations, Sociology, or other relevant courses. A master’s degree in the related field will be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience in development, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation or other learning efforts is required.
  • International NGO field experience in a similar position: programme support, development, or fundraising.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and operating within the Project Cycle Management (including logframe development and theories of change).
  • Proven experience in Knowledge Management and Institutional Learning initiatives.
  • Experience in Project Cycle Management (including logframe development and M&E).
  • Experience in capacity building/ training.
  • Experience in conveying stories and case studies to external audiences in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Experience gathering visual material for communications
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Proven evidence in programming around projects on SGBV and SRH
  • Experience of public speaking
  • Experience working in coalitions, networks or social movements
  • Ability to apply biblical principles to topical issues
  • Proven evidence of involvement in project management
  • People management experience
  • Experience in working with local NGOs/FBOs
  • Proven experience in programming of SGBV, SRH and or HIV projects
  • Experience working with local communities and health facilities in project implementation in a consortium.
  • Working with SPHERE Standards and CHS.
  • Working under pressure and remote environment
  • Open to learn and use new applications effectively
  • Working knowledge of local languages(Tiv and basic knowledge of Hausa language will be an added advantage

Additionally the successful candidate will be able to think and plan strategically, facilitate training, workshops, meetings and mentor and coach others. Ability to network and gain respect of leaders of partner organisations to mobilise churches.
