Senior Advisor, Global Safety & Security (P4)

Summary

The Senior Advisor, Global Safety and Security, reporting to the Head, HR Operations, is a key member of the Global Safety and Security (GSS) team. You will lead on maintaining an effective safety and security management program for Save the Children US and ensuring staff are trained on domestic safety and risk management. The Senior Advisor, Global Safety & Security will lead efforts for our programs and staff domestically and will be responsible for critical incident and crisis management as well as travel safety security.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Safety and Risk Management

  • Lead efforts to improve domestic safety, travel, and security for operations programs and staff, including emergency response programs
  • Maintain and update SCUS policies, procedures, and standards as necessary and ensure staff are trained
  • Manage security risks to SCUS by directing the development and integration of enterprise level safety and risk management approaches
  • Conduct domestic security assessments, analysis, and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate them
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and standards nationally; align with SCI or other members regarding international regulatory needs
  • Coordinate with Office of Head Start for Head Start locations, when needed
  • Coordinate and align with SCI and other members on international travel as necessary

Critical Incident Management and Crisis Management

  • Ensure SCUS maintains capacity to manage critical safety and security incidents
  • Prepare for and manage crises, including business continuity planning
  • Maintain crisis management policies and ensure staff are trained
  • Ensure effective use of external provider resources (i.e. travel tracking, special insurances, and other outside vendors, etc.)

Travel and Safety Security

  • Manage threat monitoring and maintain incident response systems
  • Manage security training program for SCUS travelers
  • Maintain security and risk management for travel and ensure compliance by monitoring trends, incorporating best practices, and reviewing incidents
  • Maintain effective travel security planning; together with Lead Associate, update PDI documents for all SCUS sites and programs

Lead Global Safety & Security Staff

  • Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting Save the Children values

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working in conflict affected areas as well as knowledge of security policies, practices and procedures; successful security coordination with partners, donors, and governmental institutions
  • Experience in analyzing security threats, risks, and vulnerability in international settings
  • Knowledge of issues related to the security and protection of humanitarian workers including legal protections and right for aid workers and the populations they assist
  • Experience with incident reporting and incident mapping
  • Ability to travel for up to 25% of time (may include limited international travel)
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 – NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
  • Geo 2 – Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
  • Geo 3 – Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
