An independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives.

About ODI

ODI is an independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives. We harness the power of evidence and ideas through research and partnership to confront challenges, develop solutions and create change (odi.org).

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to set, lead and deliver influential research and policy engagement on humanitarian system reform and the system of support to people in crises.

About the Humanitarian Policy Group

The Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) is one of the world’s leading teams of policy researchers and analysts working on humanitarian issues. We combine influential, high-quality policy analysis and the capacity to act as an independent catalyst and platform for dialogue and debate. It couldn’t be a better time to join the team, as we embark upon a new strategy to strengthen outcomes for people affected by crises.

Research, influencing, and convening are at the heart of what the Humanitarian Policy Group does. Rigorous, independent analysis and influential policy engagement are core to HPG’s exciting new strategy focused on rights in crises, politics and power in the humanitarian system, and resilience in climate and conflict environments. We are committed to advancing leadership, governance and financing models that advance more accountable, locally-led approaches and provide opportunities for early action and longer-term solutions.

HPG is seeking a global expert to lead, design and deliver outstanding research on our portfolio of work on the humanitarian system and financing. The role will advance HPG research and policy engagement in one or more of the following areas:

  • Donorship and financing in crisis settings, including humanitarian-development-climate-peace ‘nexus’
  • Governance of the humanitarian system, including enabling more nationally-led humanitarian action by national governments and other national actors.

About you

You will be a recognised expert in humanitarian policy at a system-level, preferably including some donorship or financing experience. You’ll have a track record of influential publications and policy engagement, and be able to help drive forward HPG’s efforts to deliver change towards more effective humanitarian policy and practice in crisis contexts.

A skilled communicator, you will be adept at convening with impact, writing for diverse audiences and making complex ideas accessible to different stakeholders. You’ll be confident providing intellectual leadership of a research and policy agenda, as well as the day-to-day management of projects and staff within this portfolio.

Closing date: 16th July 2023
