In June, 4,902 refugees and migrants arrived in Italy by sea. Most originated from Bangladesh (25%), the Syrian Arab Republic (15%) and Egypt (7%). 17 per cent were children. Other people reached Italy via land and air.

In June, UNHCR released the Global Trends providing key statistical trends on forced displacement. By the end of 2023, 117.3 million people have been forcibly displaced, marking the 12th consecutive year of increased displacement.

In June, UNHCR celebrated World Refugee Day with institutional and private sector stakeholders, including a ceremony to award companies and civil society organizations which excelled in facilitating the labor integration of forcibly displaced people in Italy.
