Global Communities is seeking an Agricultural Productivity Specialist for the anticipated USAID Growing Agriculture and Incomes in Syria (GROW) activity. This five-year, $30-45M program is expected to strengthen agriculture markets in non-regime held areas of Syria. The Activity is expected to increase the earnings of small and commercial farmers by reducing constraints to production, strengthening private sector engagement, improving market access for farmers, and increasing economic opportunities for women and youth in agricultural value chains.

The Agricultural Productivity Specialist will provide technical support to the anticipated five-year, $30-45 million USAID Growing Agriculture and Incomes in Syria activity. The Agricultural Productivity Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert and work across the Syria GROW project team to deliver innovative solutions focusing on climate smart agriculture, value chain management, market systems and private sector engagement. The Agricultural Productivity Specialist will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and will be based in Northeast Syria.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis of various value chains and customize the project interventions to evolving situation on the ground.
  • Collaborate with producers in developing high value and market-oriented value chains.
  • Provide technical direction to agriculture productivity teams.
  • Design intervention that expands the use of climate-smart agriculture production practices within the targeted value chains.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and oversight of the annual work plan ensuring that designed interventions respond to identified market opportunities, ensuring collaboration with program stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

  • Degree in agricultural engineering, or a related field (natural resources management, agriculture, environmental science, etc.)
  • At least 8 years working in the MENA agricultural sector, specifically with experience with producers and SMEs, and implementing climate change mitigation and/or adaptation activities.
  • Proven experience developing climate-smart agricultural technical packages in diverse value chains and agro-ecological zones.
  • Proven experience supporting field staff that work with producers on uptake of technologies, improved management practices, access to quality inputs, access to finance and markets, and climate-smart agricultural practices that reduce impacts on soil, water, and biodiversity.
  • Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written; either Arabic or Kurdish fluency required.
