Job Summary:
The Protection Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, and quality assurance of SRD’s Protection programming in Syria, with a primary duty station in Aleppo and regular presence in field locations.
The role covers all protection streams — Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Child Protection (CP), general protection, legal protection, protection monitoring, and community-based protection.
The Coordinator provides technical support to field teams, contributes to the contextualization of protection strategies, ensures quality service delivery, facilitates capacity building, and fosters effective coordination with partners and stakeholders. The position reports to the Head of Protection Department and works closely with the Projects Manager and other program teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Coordination and Technical Support
- Coordinate the planning and day-to-day implementation of Protection activities in areas of operation.
- Provide technical guidance to field staff (case managers, outreach workers, community mobilisers) across protection components.
- Support the rollout and adaptation of Protection tools, SOPs, and guidelines in field locations.
- Participate in shaping field-level protection strategies and priorities through regular technical feedback to the Head of Protection Department.
- Promote a survivor-centered, child-friendly, and inclusive approach across all Protection interventions.
- Ensure smooth coordination with other program teams (health, MHPSS, nutrition, livelihoods) to promote an integrated response.
2. Monitoring and Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor Protection activities and provide coaching and on-the-job support to staff.
- Ensure that services delivered adhere to minimum standards (GBV Guidelines, CPMS, Protection Principles).
- Monitor protection trends and risks in the field and report them to the Head of Protection Department.
- Support protection monitoring and community-based protection activities, ensuring active participation of affected populations.
- Follow up on project progress, indicators, and budgets to ensure activities are implemented according to approved plans and timelines.
- Ensure timely flagging of challenges or delays, and contribute to proposing corrective actions as needed.
3. Capacity Building
- Organize and facilitate training and mentoring for Protection staff and community focal points.
- Contribute to the development of capacity building plans and materials for Protection staff.
4. Coordination with Stakeholders
- Coordinate with relevant Protection actors, UN agencies, local authorities, and partners at field level.
- Support the maintenance and strengthening of referral pathways and service mapping.
- Represent SRD in field-level Protection and inter-agency coordination forums (Protection Sector and relevant WGs), as delegated by the Head of Protection Department.
5. Reporting and Data Management
- Ensure timely and accurate data collection and documentation of Protection activities.
- Support the preparation of inputs for donor reports, technical reports, and internal updates.
- Work with the M&E team to ensure data quality, confidentiality, and safe information management.
6. Safeguarding and PSEAH
- Promote safeguarding principles and PSEAH awareness across field teams and activities.
7. Flexibility and Additional Responsibilities
- Support other relevant tasks as assigned by the Head of Protection Department.
- Maintain flexibility to adapt duties and responsibilities according to programmatic needs and evolving context.
Qualifications Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Law, Human Rights, International Relations, or other relevant field.
- Master’s degree is an asset
Required Work Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in Protection programming in humanitarian contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in GBV, Child Protection, and/or General Protection.
- Proven experience in the management and follow-up of Protection projects funded by international organizations and UN agencies (including donor reporting, project cycle management, and coordination with donors)
- Previous experience working in Syria or similar conflict-affected environments is desirable.
Highly Desirable Work Experience
- Demonstrated experience working on the Syria response and/or a strong understanding of the country’s context and that of the wider Syrian crisis.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, humanitarian standards and codes of conduct.
Competencies and Skills:
- Sound understanding of Protection principles, GBV Guidelines, CPMS, and safeguarding standards.
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
- Proven ability to build staff capacity and provide technical guidance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi-sectoral teams and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under limited supervision; self-motivated, well-organized, and results-driven; communicates effectively and positively with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Proficient in English and Arabic (writing –reading –speaking)
- Proficiency in using MS Office and relevant data management tools.

Working Conditions:
- Based in Aleppo with regular travel to field sites across Syria.
