Synopsis:
The accountant position for MCC Nigeria is a full-time role that supports the financial operations of MCC programs in the country. Reporting directly to the MCC Representatives, the Accountant will manage financial reviews, partner budgeting, payroll, and compliance with local laws. Key duties include preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports, assisting with audits, and building the financial capacity of partners. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration, at least five years of relevant experience, strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, and fluency in English. A commitment to MCC’s values, including active Christian faith and nonviolent peacemaking, is essential.
Duties and responsibilities:
Specific areas of support will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure partner’s financial reviews are done and assist partners in collating, verifying, and editing all their reports.
- Manage the MCC Faswin database as assigned by the MCC Nigeria Rep.
- Provide assistance to partners on budgeting.
- Assist as a financial advisor to MCC Country Representative(s)
- Prepare financial reports every month.
- Prepare monthly payroll, provident fund, income tax payments for staff.
- Work with Admin Officer to ensure timely payment of bills.
- Provide monthly MCC reports in FASWin and MCC quarterly reports.
- Keep up to date with current government and banks’ laws and practices related to NGO financial matters.
- Prepare information for and assist with annual audits or spot-checks.
- Work with partners on capacity building on financial matters.
- Develop Partners project Agreement (MoU) and be responsible for financial reporting in Insight (Data base)
- Develop and keep up to date records and checklists for quick reference on financial matters.
- Keep up to date records for all communication, and all financial of all External Grant partners.
- Ensure financial files are maintained in a confidential manner and organized for easy access for program staff or country representatives.
- Balance cash box monthly with assistance of country representatives (requires two signatures)
- Perform or delegate bookkeeping tasks as needed.
- Assist with other duties that may be assigned by the MCC Nigeria Reps.
MCC Nigeria Team Support:
- Demonstrate a cooperative spirit, and function as an active member of the MCC Nigeria team through regular updates and attendance at all functions of the team.
2.Work interpedently with other sectors/staff for mutual collaboration and collective support.
Qualification, Skills, and Experience Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration
- Prior work experience of 5 years with international humanitarian organizations, non- government, or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Certified accountant (is added advantage).
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of staff and varying levels of financial capacity.
- Ability to train staff in accounting and basic budgeting.
- English fluency is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications e.g., Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, E- mail, Outlook; and Knowledgeable in cash Flow & forecast is a distinct advantage.
- Attention to detail, ability to organize work in a methodical way.
- Discreet, details and clients-oriented and willingness to learn new things.
- Legal right to stay and work in Nigeria.
