- Our client is undertaking a 3 year project that aims to improve basic living conditions for returnees in the liberated rural areas of Al Anbar & Ninewa – Sinjar governorate through the rehabilitation of up to 1,000 housing units & restoration of decentralized services. The decentralized services component will entail the provision of solar street lighting, the rehabilitation of selected community roads & of water & sanitation networks & / or stations. When feasible, the rehabilitated housing units will be connected to the restored decentralized services taking into consideration the whole neighborhood. The rehabilitation of housing & basic services will be guided by a needs based approach.
Role objectives:
- The Project Architect shall be responsible for undertaking all the tasks required to ensure timely, cost effective & quality delivery of the projects. S / He reports to the Lead Civil Engineer & shall preform under the guidance of the Project Manager, in addition to undertake the following tasks with preagreed timeframes:
Project development:
- Assist in preparation of preliminary design documentation, preliminary cost estimates & other tasks as necessary.
Infrastructure design & development:
- Prepare concept design proposals for new projects.
- Plan and produce design documentation for infrastructure projects.
- Revise design work for infrastructure projects as required.
- Timely production of conceptual & detailed architectural documentation for vertical structures in accordance with our clients design planning manual & / or applicable engineering code.
- Assist in carrying out site assessments as need arises & prepare subsequent reports.
- Attend coordination / consultative meetings if & when required.
- Brief & coordinate professionals from other disciplines & review documentation produced for the purposes of delivering coherent technical packages of information
- Prepare detailed architectural drawings & sketches for the housing units included in the rehabilitation works.
- Prepare detailed shop drawings, sections, elevations & all required engineering drawings for the new constructed housing units.
Final product:
- The Project Architect shall be responsible for undertaking all the tasks required to ensure timely, cost effective & quality delivery of the projects.
- Complete architectural drawings with adequate & quality information specific to all levels of the project from concept stage to implementation stage.
- In addition to what has been mentioned above the Architect will be sent to field to follow up on ongoing activities.
Design management:
- Outline design requirements including concept, preliminary & final stages where applicable.
- Design & drawings of new & existing buildings & infrastructure, for rehabilitation & construction.
- Develop design requirements for new projects & is responsible for the relevant preliminary design drawings & design documentation.
- Develop design concepts & presentations required to ensure timely, cost effective & quality delivery of the work.
- Ensure the revisions of details, design & drawings if & when required during the project lifespan.
- Manage the design plan ensuring deliverables are available on time & to the required quality inline with our clients design planning manual & reviewer requirements.
- Prepare a design brief after a site reconnaissance & meetings with partners outlining the design program, timeframe & budget estimates.
- Ensure testing & commissioning for handover & acceptance of deliverable is done to clients.
- Produce architectural design concepts based on a design brief by our client & conduct presentations to partners.
- Produce architectural design development drawings that include plans, sections, elevations & details of working drawings using CAD & BIM software in accordance with local & international standards.
- Review the design drawings for the projects from the field in term of accuracy & suitability to overall design & construction requirements, including identifying improvements in the designs & be able to propose practical solutions.
- Review the accuracy of the Bill of Quantities (BOQ’s) of the projects proposed matching the international standards.
- Review & approve BOQ’s.
- Lead the ongoing programming, design & construction administration effort.
- Lead the provision of design development & tender / construction documents (drawings, specifications, BOQ) with appropriate presentations for review & approval.
Project reporting:
- This role works under the overall guidance of the Project Manager & the direct supervision of the Lead Design Engineer.
Key competencies:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture is required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in architectural design is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in coordinating information & teams is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in infrastructure is required.
- Experience in developing countries & knowledge in the country context related field is an added advantage.
- Experience in use of software such as AutoCAD / ArchiCAD 3DMax & REVIT (architectural, structural & MEP).
- Experience in Google suite applications will be an asset.
