Communications and Marketing Manager

Role & Responsibilities

We’re seeking a dynamic communications and marketing professional who can lead, develop and deliver Medair UK’s external engagement, with various audiences, across multiple platforms, including digital and social media. You will be an integral part of this growing Christian charity and will enable support for the life-saving work Medair delivers to some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Medair UK is an affiliate of the Swiss-based humanitarian organisation, Medair International, which brings life-saving relief and recovery to communities devastated by natural disasters, conflicts, and other crises. Medair is a humanitarian organisation inspired by Christian faith with an excellent reputation for delivering timely, compassionate, and professional humanitarian assistance regardless of race, creed, ethnicity or religion. Workplace & Working conditions

Medair UK office is based in Kennington, London. There is possibility to adopt hybrid working. Only those eligible to work in the UK can apply.

Starting Date / Initial Contract Details

September 25th. 60%, 12 months (Maternity Cover).

Key Activity Areas

Digital Communications and Marketing

  • Develop, implement, manage and review Medair UK’s digital communications and marketing plan:
  • Develop and deliver strategy, plan and content for Medair UK social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) engaging supporters around the pray, give, go message
  • Create, maintain and develop Medair UK’s communications calendar
  • Develop and maintain links with the Global Support Office, Medair Affiliate offices and in-country Communication Officers with a view to leveraging appropriate communications content for use by Medair UK across its various communications channels.
  • Develop and maintain links with current and former UK nationals working with Medair in our programme countries with a view to leveraging appropriate communications content for use by Medair UK across its various communications channels.
  • In liaison with the rest of Medair UK fundraising team develop and update the Medair UK pages of the Medair website ensuring they are locally appropriate and in line with overall Medair strategy.
  • Act as the main point of contact for Medair in Switzerland for all matters relating to the Medair website.
  • In liaison with the rest of the Medair UK team, develop and maintain Medair UK’s presence on key partners digital platforms ensuring currency and appropriateness of messaging about Medair and its work.
  • In liaison with the rest of the Medair UK fundraising team, develop e-fundraising content and activity which aligns with Medair UK’s annual fundraising plan.

Print Communications and Marketing

  • Work closely with the Engagement Officer to produce compelling and effective Direct Mail campaigns both planned and in response to emergency appeals.
  • Act as the point of contact within Medair UK for ensuring brand integrity, accuracy, tone and appropriateness of messaging for all published materials and communications.
  • Ensure Medair News, Appeals and other relevant print-based materials are made accessible to Medair’s supporters and partners in various digital formats including via mobile phone.

Media

  • Maintain and develop relationships with key contacts in national and Christian broadcast and print media with a view to creating opportunities to increase Medair’s profile.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships across Medair’s offices with a view to leveraging appropriate communications content from our country programmes for use by Medair UK with national and Christian broadcast and print media.
  • Working with the rest of the team maximise opportunities for generating engagement with new and current supporters through activities with national and Christian broadcast and print media.
  • Develop and implement a strategy and plan for media engagement that generates support around the pray, give, go message.

Tasks common to all staff

  • Act as an ambassador for Medair UK at all times when liaising externally and internally.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of Medair brand across all relevant activities. Record information as necessary and comply at all times with requirements for handling personal / sensitive data.
  • Contribute to the annual planning and budgeting cycle, providing appropriate input from your area of responsibility. Adhere to the Medair values and mission at all times.

This job description covers the main tasks that are anticipated. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or equivalent, or work experience related to the charity sector preferably in an international relief/development organisation.
  • Professional marketing and communications/fundraising qualification and/or project management qualification desirable.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the English language (speaking and writing).

Experience

  • Inspired by and in full agreement with Medair’s Christian values and ethos
  • A proven track record in generating engagement through communications and marketing activity
  • Substantial experience of planning, implementing and evaluating digital marketing campaigns across a range of media channels targeting UK audiences
  • Budget management and experience of dealing with designers, developers and other suppliers, negotiating costs and managing relationships to ensure positive outcomes
  • Clear management of relationships to ensure positive outcomes. Effective networking skills.
  • Ability to develop design and campaign briefs, write and review digital content and evaluate artwork, providing feedback
  • The ability to build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships internally and externally
  • Experience of designing effective fundraising campaigns, products and/or resources that successfully engage the target audience.
  • Experience in communications / working with media channels to gain visibility
  • Experience in dealing with broadcast and print media
  • Ability to handle a wide and varied workload and work on own initiative
  • Willing to contribute to the spiritual life of the team including prayer meeting
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of hours worked at occasional, moments of crisis
