Transcription and Translation Consultancy

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.

Overview:

NP first established a presence in Sudan in Jan 2022 working on peacebuilding and community protection. NP occupies a unique space in the protection response in Sudan; simultaneously providing direct protection to at-risk civilians and providing hands-on support to community protection groups to work towards their own security and secure advocacy space to do so.

Job Summary:

The consultant/s will transcribe audio data collected from the project sites, translate from Arabic to English and code as relevant under appropriate outcomes.

Transcription & Translation:

Listen to audio files and transcribe accurately either into Arabic and then English or directly into English. Approximately 24 hours of audio (data collection is ongoing).

Outputs:

  • Written English version of all audio files.
  • Information coded and sorted into appropriate outcomes. Structure for these will be provided during the workstream inception.
  • Written record of time usage.

Provided:

  • A glossary of key terms will be provided to the consultant/s that explain key concepts around Unarmed Civilian Protection and other technical terminology.
  • Specific direction on data security and storage will be provided and adhered to as per the contract.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in similar evaluation related work, particularly in understanding.
  • Experience working in an NGO or similar organisation.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Fluent Arabic and English language skills
  • Ability to translate to a high standard.
  • Information management skills
