LOCATION: Monrovia, Liberia

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: Save the Children is seeking Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor candidates for the upcoming USAID-funded Food Security, Nutrition, and Resilience (FSNR) activity in Liberia. The FSNR activity will aim to improve Liberia’s food and nutrition security and households’ resilience. FSNR is anticipated to be a five-year activity that will target smallholder farmers, subsistence farmers, cooperatives, women, and youth groups in rural and peri-urban communities within USAID/Liberia’s zone of influence (Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Margibi, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado).

This position is contingent upon donor approval and funding.

Role Dimensions: (e.g. complexity, relationships, communication with stakeholders)


  • Stay abreast and informed of USAID and other relevant gender policies, regulations, monitoring and evaluation principles, and indicators.
  • In collaboration with the SMT, Save the Children US technical advisors, and others, coordinate and support the development of the Gender and Power Analysis Plan during the first year of FSNR implementation; lead the implementation of the analysis.
  • Lead the development of the project’s Gender Equality and Social Justice Strategy and ensure that analysis recommendations are integrated into project plans.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of annual program work plans and performance milestones.
  • Work with and support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) teams to: develop context-specific indicators for gender, power/ social justice, and GBV; measure gender and socio-cultural outcomes; and collect and analyze gender and socio-cultural data.
  • Review project reports and annual implementation plans and contribute to regional and national strategic planning.
  • Analyze and review program reports to ensure gender integration in the narrative.
  • Provide gender-related technical support to all project staff, including but not limited to livelihoods, nutrition, and resilience teams.
  • Provide technical, programmatic, operational, and managerial oversight of all activities that have a gender aspect or component.
  • Participate in technical working groups.
  • Ensure that program implementation meets USAID’s programmatic, administrative and financial standards and requirements.


  • Bachelor’s degree in gender/women’s studies, international development, health, nutrition, or related area preferred.
  • Proven ability to apply technical expertise in gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches on similar projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the gender component for a large award, including conducting Gender and Power analysis and developing a Gender or Gender Equality and Social Justice Strategy for such an award
  • Demonstrated ability to work with host government and partners in implementing a complex project in the field under challenging circumstances.
  • Significant knowledge of gender principles as they relate to livelihoods, nutrition, and resilience for community-based programs.



  • Minimum of five years of relevant experence working on nutrition, livelihoods, food security, DRR, and/or WASH programs.
  • Experience in gender-based programming with substantial understanding of and commitment to equality and equity issues and mainstreaming.
  • Experience working on similar USAID or other donor-funded programs; familiarity with USAID regulations and policies preferred**.**
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required.
