India – Severe weather and landslide (media, IMD) (ECHO Daily Flash of 26 March 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning have been affecting north-western India, in particular the Himachal Pradesh State and north-eastern India since 23 March, causing a landslide and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 26 March, two fatalities and seven injured people in the Mairi village, Una District, western Himachal Pradesh State due to a huge landslide which occurred on 25 March.
  • Moreover, media also report three fatalities, one person still missing, 23 destroyed houses and a total of 4,560 damaged houses in seven district across the Tripura State, whereas the worst affected are South Tripura and Sepahijala Districts.
  • Over the next 24 hours, no more severe weather is forecast over the affected states. More heavy rainfall is forecast over Himachal Pradesh and Tripura States over the period 27-28 March.
