Project Objective:
Social Impact has been hired to conduct a participatory ex-post evaluation of its conflict mitigation and governance programming in Thailand’s Deep South to assess USAID/RDMA’s past interventions and craft joint recommendations for future interventions. This evaluation will inform a wide variety of stakeholders, including activity partners, beneficiaries, USAID/RDMA, USAID Washington, US Embassy in Thailand, Congress, and the broader peace and governance community. The evaluation will cover all interventions provided to civil society organizations (CSOs) and RTG agencies in the form of grants, subcontracts, and technical assistance through USAID/RDMA activities in Thailand’s Deep South from 2010 to present.

Position Description:
Social Impact is seeking a Local Research Specialist who will support planning and preparation, desk review, primary data collection and analysis, and reporting of this evaluation. During the data collection period, the Local Research Specialist will lead one of the sub-teams by facilitating interviews and focus group discussions in various provinces. This role will also support the planning and delivery of a variety of workshops and presentations, and key deliverables such as reports and briefs.

The estimated period of performance is August 2023 through March 2024.

*Please note, this position is based in Thailand and will require travel throughout Thailand as needed.*

Responsibilities:

  • Lead one sub-team in qualitative in-person data collection such as key informant interviews and focus group discussions in the Deep South provinces; support with notetaking as needed.
  • Assist with data analysis, including coding.
  • Support the design (including materials, PowerPoints, etc.) and delivery of the Co-Creation Workshop, Recommendations Workshop, and other presentations on evaluation findings.
  • Provide written contributions to deliverables, such as the Evaluation Design Report, Final Report, Briefs, and presentations.
  • Participate in an orientation and training for the assignment.
  • Work closely with SI HQ and Evaluation Team and communicate in a timely and effective manner with all project personnel.
  • Abide by SI standards of ethics and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years relevant experience, OR Master’s degree and 2 years relevant experience.
  • Experience conducting qualitative data collection and analysis on donor-funded projects.
  • Knowledgeable about conflict mitigation in Thailand’s Deep South.
  • Prior experience conducting assessments, evaluations, or other research studies in the conflict sector.
  • Fluency in both Thai and English.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Thai.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently to meet deadlines and adhere to high-quality standards.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Thailand for data collection.
  • Work closely with SI HQ and Evaluation Team and communicate in a timely and effective manner with all project personnel.
  • Abide by SI standards of ethics and quality.
