Project Accountant

Position overview: The Project Accountant is required to ensure capture of accurate and timely financial data, maintenance of accounting records, controls and procedures for MECPU finance department.

The roles and responsibility:

  • Ensuring accuracy of financial documents, as well as their compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and maintain important donor financial reports.
  • Prepare tax returns and ensure that taxes are paid properly and on time.
  • Evaluating financial operations to recommend best-practices, identify issues and strategize solutions, and support efficient running of the organization.
  • Guiding on cost reduction, revenue enhancement and profit maximization.
  • Conducting forecasting and risk analysis assessments.
  • Support budget preparation/development and monitoring BVs.
  • Manage random annual audit of MAU and MECDI accounts in preparation for external audit and provide reports.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements.
  • Prepare files for auditors including updated fixed asset register, schedule for all balance sheet items, income schedules, staff payroll schedule for any period under review.
  • Prepare monthly accurate pivot and monthly reports by 5th of the preceding month.
  • Ensure timely submission of PAYE, NSSF, LST WHT and annual returns compliance.
  • Submit timely and accurate donor reports within deadlines to Country Office.
  • Analysis of cash/bank against donor payables to determine cash needs.
  • Implement and maintain reliable accounting procedures consistent with international best practice for use in keeping company accounting records.
  • Maintain a clean general ledger.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time by supervisor or designate.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years experience managing a small finance department in a development or humanitarian environment.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related course from an accredited institute.
  • CPA qualifications are added advantage.
  • Experience managing at least a team of three or more personnel.
