The DRC/DDG Somalia Programme is the largest programmes in East Africa region and has been providing relief and development services since 1997. DRC/DDG is among the INGOs with the largest presence in Somalia, with country-wide programmes implemented through six main sub offices in Somaliland, Puntland, Hiran Region, Gedo Region, Bay Region and Banadir Region. Using a human rights framework, the DRC Somalia operations focuses mainly on people who are affected by displacement, including refugees, internally displaced, and migrant.

Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC which implements mine action and armed violence reduction (AVR) programmes. DDG’s mandate is ‘to create a safe environment free from armed violence and the remnants of conflict’, and DDG does this via a programmatic focus on four key sectors: Security Systems Reform, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) management, Mine Action and Conflict Management.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Project Officer will promote safe access to health services for GBV survivors concerning survivors-centered approaches. The Project Officer will ensure that all clients have equal access to all health services. S/he will ensure that all measures and health principles are followed. S/he will be closely working with GBV and Health assistant, WASH assistant staff, other staff, and the project stakeholders. S/he will be supervised by the Project Manager and produce weekly monthly and quarterly reports.


  • Responsible for the primary planning, direct implementation of project activities, and monitoring of activities progress.
  • Ensure all staff under this project effective plans and procedures are in place to safeguard survivors especially children by promoting the accessibilities to services.
  • Conduct capacity-building training on health promotion, rights to health, and child safeguarding to the other project staff, community-based committee’s focal points.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly based on the donor’s demand.

Experience, Education and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Minimum 3 years work experience in health, safeguarding, GBV, child protection with a demonstrated focus on protection program design and implementation.
  • University degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution.
  • Protection in working with an international NGO, UN agency, or humanitarian response.
  • Experience in working with displaced and/or conflict-affected populations, such as refugees or IDP
  • Knowledge of community-based protection approaches, preferably including experience in working with IDPs, Refugees, or returnees through health aspects.
  • Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel, and database software) and willingness to develop further.
  • Good cooperation skills, ability to work well independently and in a team;
  • Experience working with International NGO’s, UN agencies, and/or local authorities in complex emergencies
  • Strong self-starter, taking initiative and adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as the commitment to supporting women and children survivors/ at risk;
  • Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment
  • Proven record of providing training and workshops on protection needs and concerns.
  • Excellent knowledge of health policies and laws in this context.


  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Somali is required
  • Good command of computer programs and applications.

Duration: 12 Month with possibility of extension based on performance and funding

Contract: This position is graded as Band H2-Non-Management for qualified national staff and the terms of employment will be in accordance with DRC terms for national staff
