Doha, Qatar – March 2025
With generous support from the people of Qatar, and as part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of displaced and needy families, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan, Qatar Charity has distributed food baskets to displaced families in the outskirts of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The initiative targets approximately 1,100 families who are experiencing difficult humanitarian conditions.
Promoting the Values of Compassion
This initiative is part of Qatar Charity’s continued relief efforts in Somalia, where it aims to provide food assistance to families affected by humanitarian crises, particularly with the worsening conditions of displaced persons due to conflicts and droughts. The baskets included essential food items that meet the families’ needs throughout the holy month, helping them face the challenges related to securing food and promoting the spirit of compassion.
On this occasion, Mr. Abdelfattah Adam Malim, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia, said: “We have allocated the aid to displaced families who have lost their livelihoods due to conflicts and drought. We hope that this aid will alleviate their suffering during the holy month of Ramadan, promote values of solidarity and mutual support, and enable them to observe fasting in dignified conditions.”
Joy of Beneficiary Families
The assistance was met with great appreciation from the beneficiary families. Halima Mohamed Moussa (40 years old), a mother of seven children, expressed her happiness upon receiving the aid, saying: “With the arrival of Ramadan, I was worried about securing food for my children. We didn’t have enough food to prepare meals for Iftar and Suhoor, but this aid came at the right time. I thank everyone who contributed to bringing joy to our children’s hearts.”
As for Fatima Ahmed Hassan (70 years old), who has been living in one of the camps for years, she described the hardship she faces, saying: “Many days, we go to bed hungry, with no source of income, surviving only on what humanitarian organizations provide. This food basket will help me get through this holy month with dignity, and I hope that this support continues until we can live under better conditions.”
