Project Overview:
The Pacific Labour Facility (PLF) facilitates seasonal and longer-term work opportunities for Pacific workers in Australia. It connects Australian employers with Pacific workers under the newly introduced Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme which combines the existing Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS) and Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP).

Role Overview:
The PLF has established a research agenda to better understand the impacts of Pacific labour mobility on both sender countries and regional Australian communities. The Economic Analyst will be responsible for assisting with PLF’s work on economic analyses, including industry assessments, labour market analyses, quantitative and qualitative research, quantifying economic impacts of the Scheme on both sender country economies and regional Australian economies.

The role would suit a student in their final year or a recent graduate. The role is intended to be full-time, however part-time arrangements can be made for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and synthesis credible data from a broad variety of sources
  • Maintain economic databases being used for research and analyses
  • Assist in undertaking PLF’s economics and quantitative research agenda, including (but not limited to) labour market analyses, industry assessments, economic impact analyses, visa projections, productivity analyses, cost of living analyses, cost benefit analyses and other relevant research/evaluations
  • Assist with developing and maintaining persuasive reporting products, including policy analyses, reports, inputs into PLF’s reporting and planning milestones, and reports for external stakeholders detailing the economic impacts of the program
  • Collaborate with other members of the PLF team and assist in disseminating research and analytical results in a way that fosters learning amongst PLF stakeholders
  • Work with other members of the Quality, Learning and Performance (QLP) team and contribute to economic and analytical tasks as requested
  • Assist in maintaining collaborative partnerships and networks with relevant organisations and consultants undertaking economic research on labour mobility

Requirements:

  • A completed degree or in final year in economics, statistics, commerce or other relevant discipline
  • Interest in economic development in regional Australia and international development in the Pacific context
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information for non-technical audiences
  • Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality outputs

This is a Brisbane based role with options for flexible working. Candidates who are willing to relocate for the position must do so at their own expense.
