Overview

The General Board of Global Ministries is the worldwide mission, relief, and development agency of The United Methodist Church, working with partners and churches in more than 115 countries to equip and transform people and places for God’s mission. Global Ministries connects the church in mission through the sending of missionaries, evangelism and church revitalization, disaster response and recovery led by the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and global health.

Job Summary

Working in collaboration with the Director of Grants, this person will be responsible for advancing key areas of Global Ministries’ outbound grant portfolio. In collaboration with the Global Mission Relationships and Multiethnic Ministries program areas, the Grants Associate will be a key support to consolidating grant tracking, review, and documentation. The person will develop a thorough understanding of the current Global Ministries systems and processes while also supporting the Director of Grants other grant management colleagues in ensuring future state systems and processes align with Global Ministries’ strategic priorities and organizational touchstones.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as a key driver of monthly grant review docket process, including consolidating docket items, tracking reviewer feedback, and logging approvals. Also serves as primary in-house expert on Global Ministries’ legacy grant system, data quality control, and system and process documentation.
  • Tracks grant progress for all Global Ministries grants, including primary management of the grant tracker and periodic reporting to units on grant statuses and pending actions.
  • Coordinate with Finance unit to follow up on open grant items with respective program staff.
  • Manage administrative process for Nationals in Mission grant program, including coordinating with program support staff on the timeline, managing grant records, and preparing summary grant proposals for Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee updates to the consolidated partner list and efforts to collate annual grant data by partner.
  • Coordinate with unit staff to ensure all grant-related documentation is on file, appropriately stored and organized, and tracked.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Grants.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience of nonprofit or foundation work.
  • Experience with outbound grants preferred.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with data management and quality control required.

Competencies, Job Requirements, and Other Specialized Knowledge

  • Drive Global Ministries’ grant process as the primary responsible person for performing data quality control, reporting, and compiling grant dockets for review.
  • Support the Director of Grants with efforts to coordinate grantmaking efforts across the whole agency.
  • Collaborate with Director of Grants and administrators of grant management systems to create quality grant process and system documentation and offer training as needed to programmatic and administrative staff regarding developments to Global Ministries’ grant management.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially intermediate to advance Excel proficiency.
  • Familiarity with The United Methodist Church, Global Ministries, and its partners a plus.
  • Bilingual in either French or Portuguese a plus.

Work Hours and Conditions

  • May require work outside of standard business hours (to include weekends), particularly during peak unit season.
  • Sedentary office/computer/keyboarding/meeting work for extended periods of time.
  • May require travel as necessary for work.

  • Salary: $45,628 – $73,005
