Objectives of the Assignment:
The objective of this assignment is to ensure the effective implementation and enforcement of measures against gender discrimination, violence, and harassment in the world of work in Jordan. This includes aligning Jordanian legislation with international standards, supporting the proposed National Strategy for Elimination of Violence and Harassment, and enforcing the legislative amendment to enhance workers’ rights and protections.
This will require the selected consultant’s full understanding of the relevant ILO labour standards mainly, the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190), Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention, 1958 (No. 111); Equal Remuneration Convention, 1951 (No. 100); among others.
Tasks and Activities In coordination with the W4W programme manager, the legal consultant is expected to perform the following tasks and activities in English and Arabic:
Update the proposed Violence and Harassment in the World of Work Strategy: Building upon the successful collaboration done previously and building on the partnership with the JNCW and the GFJTU to update the proposed strategy on violence and harassment. This update should incorporate recent amendments to the National Labour Law concerning violence and harassment, ensuring full compliance with the legal framework. Moreover, there should be a focus on addressing the specific challenges faced by vulnerable groups, such as domestic and agriculture workers, and people with disabilities, by including provisions that protect their rights and safety in the workplace.
Lobby and Advocate for ILO C190 Ratification: To reinforce Jordan’s commitment to eradicating Violence and Harassment in the workplace, there is a need to actively engage in lobbying and advocacy efforts to encourage the Government of Jordan to ratify ILO C190. In collaboration with the Parliament, key stakeholders, government officials, civil society organizations, and international partners, W4W will create a unified voice for the ratification process. Emphasizing the importance of adopting this international standard will highlight Jordan’s commitment to promoting a safe and respectful work environment for all.
Develop Training Material for a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC): Recognizing a zerotolerance policy towards all types of Violence and Harassment, the legal consultant is expected to support the creation of comprehensive training material explaining the definitions and types of V&H. Companies can utilize this material with their employees as a prevention measure against V&H in the workplace. The training material should be tailored for various audiences, including university students, professors, bankers, and others, to equip them with essential knowledge and understanding of the main concepts and definitions related to V&H. It should also cover topics such as recognizing signs of V&H, advocacy mechanisms, and intervention strategies.
