Position: Iraq Project Coordinator

Proposer/s: FOCSIV in partnership with Associazione Realmonte Onlus, CELIM, COPE, ENGIM International.

FOCSIV is the Federation of Christian Organisations of International Voluntary Service, of which 94 Associations present in over 80 countries around the world are currently members. The Federation offers its support in the realisation of development projects in the sociomedical, agricultural-food, educational-training, human rights, child and adolescent protection, gender equality and institutional strengthening sectors. FOCSIV promotes initiatives in the emergency and development channel in different countries. The Federation’s interventions aim to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable groups and to strengthen the social stability of the least integrated populations.

FOCSIV is currently operational in Iraq with two AICS-funded projects: “ALTAEYUSH – Integrated and multidimensional community processes of inclusion and socio-economic cohesion for strengthening the resilience of vulnerable ethnic-religious groups” AID 012590/05/2, in partnership with FOCSIV members Associazione Realmonte Onlus, CELIM, COPE, ENGIM International and two local partners, in which FOCSIV offers its contribution in reducing inequalities and discriminatory practices related to religion, gender, age, disability and economic status towards the most vulnerable people, in particular Christian minorities, in the Governorate of Nineveh; and “Programme for resilience and return in Nineveh Governorate through an integrated approach in the education, health and livelihood sectors”, in partnership with AVSI, UPP and 1 local partner, in which FOCSIV collaborates to improve access and quality of education services for vulnerable communities in Nineveh Governorate.

Contact persons

The Project Coordinator reports directly to the designated contact person at the FOCSIV headquarters in Rome, via email, skype and telephone line.

He/she is responsible for taking minutes of the decisions taken in coordination as indicated above.

Objective

The candidate, an expatriate staff member, will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and supervision of all project activities, following the specific regulations mentioned in the official call for proposals issued by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – AICS.

The Project Coordinator acts as head of the Management Team and avails himself/herself of the collaboration of the on-site staff.

Main responsibilities

The FOCSIV Project Coordinator is responsible for:

– Assume overall responsibility for the smooth running of all project activities and relations between project and external human resources;

– Co-ordinate project activities at the operational level, in co-operation with the other partners;

– Co-ordinate the development and preparation of work plans, reports and budgets for all programme activities;

– Develop appropriate strategies to ensure efficient use of available resources, based on knowledge of trends in the region;

– Conduct timely monitoring of the progress of project activities and ensure monthly reviews of work plans according to the outlined chronogram

– Supervise the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities, following the guidelines provided and supporting the staff employed;

– Coordinate and ensure linkages and synergies with local partners and project staff through regular coordination meetings;

– Drafting reports and reviewing official notes for internal use and for submission to the co-executor.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge:

– Master’s degree in development cooperation, political science or related disciplines, with technical skills in financial and human resources management;

– Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English;

– Mother tongue Italian;

– Preferred requirement: knowledge of Arabic.

Skills:

– At least 3 years of experience in development project management, in situations of political, social, environmental tensions;

– Previous experience with AICS;

– Preferable experience in managing multi-sectoral projects;

– Preferable experience in managing partners of various types.

– Preferable experience in the geographical area of reference of the project

Technical and psycho-aptitude skills:

– Strategic ability to analyse complex contexts, assessing risks and needs;

– Ability to supervise the operational aspects of the project;

– Ability to coordinate and supervise local staff and project partners;

– High interpersonal skills with a strong aptitude for problem-solving and teamwork;

– Excellent knowledge of IT and reporting systems;

– Excellent capacity for flexibility and adaptation;

– Reliability, punctuality and thoroughness.
