Technical Manager Health (m/f/d)

The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building/development projects on request of and in collaboration with sister organisations within the Movement.

GRC is currently seeking a Technical Manager Health.

The position sits in the division 6, International Cooperation of the GRC headquarters and is assigned to department 64, knowledge and innovation. The department implements a global project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office to develop further the thematic areas of health, disaster risk reduction, anticipatory action as well as the integration of these thematic areas; thereby also considering relevant cross-cutting topics such the climate crisis. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is considered to be an integral part of health interventions. You are part of the health unit and responsible for the technical support to humanitarian assistance projects worldwide with components of health. As part of the work division in the health unit, the support to a specific region of the world may be assigned to you.

The employment is full-time (100%). The employment offer is initially limited to two years. An extension of employment is sought, the project is scheduled to 31.12.2025.

Your tasks:

• Provide technical advice and support to GRC health projects, particularly in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health projects in coordination with GRC country teams.
• Provide support to GRC country teams in all matters related to health programming also beyond existing projects and approaches in support of the partnership with RCRC Sister National Societies.
• Develop relevant guidelines and document best practices to strengthen the international work of GRC in health.
• Develop and adapt approaches and methodologies for health in humanitarian assistance.
• Support the design and delivery of trainings, workshops and other capacity building initiatives with regards to health.
• In all these efforts, ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to innovation and knowledge transfer.
• Contribute to networking and coordination with relevant stakeholders inside and outside the RCRC movement.
• Contribute to all relevant monitoring and reporting activities and requirements of the health unit.

Your profile:

• University degree in Public Health or related field
• At least 5 years’ experience in humanitarian assistance and/or development cooperation, with preferably 3 years of experience in the direct implementation of health projects in the field
• Experience in project cycle management, including assessments, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, learning (MEAL) · Experience in development and conducting trainings or workshops is a strong asset
• Experience in working with local partner organisations; experience of working within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is an asset
• Detailed knowledge of (community-based) health approaches; knowledge of the relevant RCRC approaches is a strong asset
• Strong ability to work in a team and a strong will to cooperate
• Ability to communicate in an appreciative and culturally appropriate manner
• Fluent in spoken and written English; fluency in German is a strong asset; Spanish, French, or Arabic is an additional asset
• Availability and willingness to travel abroad, fitness for travel in the tropics and other challenging environments
